America’s Spiritual Tower of Babel
Jan 13 by Ingrid Schlueter
This article from the Christian Post reports on the nature of the beliefs of those identifying themselves as Christian in America.
Among those who describe themselves as Christians, for instance, nearly half believe that Satan does not exist, one-third say that Jesus sinned when He was on earth, two-fifths say they do not have a responsibility to share the Gospel with others, and one-quarter dismiss the idea that the Bible is accurate in all of its teachings – beliefs that are contrary to most church teachings.
Take your pick. Mix and match. Don’t like a doctrine? Don’t believe in it. The article points out that Americans are even mixing religions to come up with a belief system that’s right for them. For example, if I like Hinduism, but I also like hamburgers, I just skip the teaching on reincarnation and thus avoid the risk of eating Uncle Bob on a bun. If I like Christianity but really think yoga is totally cool, I can just baptize it Yahweh Yoga and do Christian worship with Hindu practices. It’s all good, see?
What an unbelievable chaotic mess things are spiritually today. When the light of Christianity should be clear and strong in our land, it has been dimmed and in many cases put out, only adding to the spiritual confusion. What passes for Christianity today (just turn on your television on a Sunday morning and watch the freak parade) has nothing remotely to do with the faith once delivered to the saints. The polytheistic cacaphony we hear is the result.
